Annual ‘One World Night’ at Longniddry, East Lothian, focuses on people seeking sanctuary

Longniddry Parish Church hosted its annual One World Night on Friday the 25th of October.

The focus the evening was the plight of women, men and children from around the world who are forced to seek sanctuary.

The evening had contributions from Dr Sabir Zazai, Chief Executive of the Scottish Refugee Council and Honorary President of City of Sanctuary, Martin Whitfield MP, Preston Lodge High School Community Soul Band, Longniddry Primary School (which is a UNESCO rights-respecting school), as well as information stalls from City of Sanctuary and Christian Aid.

Martin Whitfield MP who spoke at the event, commented on his website:

“The One World Night was a really interesting and thought-provoking event which provided a platform for discussing the plight of refugees, asylum seekers and trafficked people.

“Sabir Zazai’s contribution was particularly moving and powerful and I am grateful to him for his contribution. The senior pupils were also brilliant and gave us all serious food for thought.

“Many thanks to everyone at Longniddry Parish Church involved in organising the event and all those who attended for making it such a fascinating and positive night.”
